Pinterest Group Boards and Secret Boards

In a previous article I talked about how to set up a basic business Pinterest Page but did you know that you can also create a group board and a secret board as well?

Group Boards

Typically you would set up a group board to collaborate with colleagues, clients or friends.  Group boards are a great way to bring people together and organize ideas. They can also benefit your business and brand.  Collaborating with like-minded individual will bring a lot more attention to your board. Think about it, your pins will go to those following you as well as those following people you invite.

It is a fantastic way to network. Set up a group board with a common topic and expand you network at the same time. How about finding some leaders in your basic field that will complement what you are doing and inviting them. I would call this a win win Proposition.

If you are someone who designs things for clients like a wedding planner,  interior designer etc. This would be a great planning board. Having clients post what they like or want. You can post some ideas for them to go over. What a great planning tool. Pinterest will send you a notification each time a contributor pins to a board. It is important that you monitor the board just in case you get a rough pin or pinner – You can uninvited someone on a group board.

Secret Boards

Secret boards are pretty interesting – when you set them up nobody but those you invite can see them. The pins will not be searchable and they will not go into categories. So they truly are secret. You can only create 3 secret boards so you will have to use them wisely.

4 things to remember

  1. ONLY the creator of the board can edit the secret board, invite people, and block people that are posting things that are offensive.
  2. ONLY the board’s creator can make the board public. No other person will be able to change this setting.
  3. Only invited contributors will be able to view the secret board and request approval for people they would like to invite to the secret board.
  4. Only the person who created the board will be able to approve or remove these pinners
Of course all contributors will have access to pinning on this board. All contributors will also be able to re-pin contents of the secret board to other boards. These re-pins and likes will not display information about the secret board or link back to the secret board

If you are invited to be part of a secret board there are something’s you need to consider. Make sure you trust the creator of this board. They have full control and can make the board visible to everyone at any time.

If the creator decides to go public with a secret board, the board pins, comments and who posted them become visible for all to see. You will then be in the public with your secrets posted...

How to Set Up a Basic Pinterest Business Page

business on Pinterest.
Right now, Pinterest is all the rage it can be fun just to be involved, but it is especially valuable to businesses.  If you are on Pinterest, and you own a business, then you need to set a Pinterest account up for business. You can convert your personal account into a business account, but it may be better to keep them separate.  If you want to convert your account just log in and convert your account to a business account. If you want to register a new Pinterest Business account click here

What is the difference between a personal & business account

Both accounts look similar but the advantage to having a Pinterest business account is you’ll receive updates on future products and services that will provide powerful ways of reaching and understanding your audience on Pinterest. If you’re personal style is different than your business branding you will want to have two separate accounts.

Setting up your business account

  1. Fill up everything do not neglect the nooks and crannies!
  2. Make sure you feature your business name on your profile.
  3. Do not skip the paragraph about your business or yourself (in the about section) the information you put in will show up right under your photo.
  4. Upload a picture I am torn on uploading the logo or a picture of you. On social media when people see you they feel a  personal connection that can draw them to you helping to promote your business. On the other hand a logo will brand your business so if you purpose is to brand your business then you know what to do.
  5. Connect your account with Facebook and Twitter accounts. This will put social media icons under your profile picture that will link to your social media pages – great way to gain followers, do not forget to put your web address there as well.
Setting up your Boards

Be creative when coming up with board names, keep it in the realm of reality. Use keywords when possible it will help when people are looking for your product or service. when your board does not accurately portray what is on it you may miss out on a lot of potential clients

Pin steadily and consistently – pin lots of stuff this will increase your exposure much more than huge bursts.

Pin from all types of sources these days most blogs and website have the pin-it button so you can pin a picture on your board. Don’t be limited by pinning only from a select source.

Comment on pins you like – you can tag other Pinterest users by using “@username” in your description.

One of the biggest mistakes I have seen is not putting a link in your pin.
Honestly that is the whole point in posting in a business account. How are they going to go to your website?

How to link to your pin.

Once you have pinned an image go into your board hover over the image you want to put the link, up in the top right corner you will see a little book mark sign – click on it. It is exactly where the image shows you. This will open up into a space for a description and below that it will say source that is where you put your link. Remember to put keywords in your description.

You are now able to pin videos as well as images! So if you are working on a marketing campaign with YouTube video’s or you find some great video’s you want to share pin them.

Just like when engaging in all your social media platforms the networking and connections are what make this medium so valuable. I love Pinterest – I guess it is probably obvious since I am a designer…

Even if you have a Pinterest account I hope this gives you a little more information to set it up to benefit the growth of your business...
